Be Active. Live Healthy.

It's true. Spending more time in nature can make you healthier! ParkRx is a partnership between you, your healthcare provider and neighborhood parks. Local parks are nearby, safe and fun places to visit. You might walk or play with friends and family, join a yoga or Tai Chi group, or enjoy the solitude of being around trees and open sky. Ask your healthcare provider today if ParkRx is right for you, then earn prizes while you become active and live healthy!

Community Resources

Residents of the Sunnyslope neighborhood are fortunate to have several parks in Sunnyslope and the North Mountain and Shaw Butte Phoenix Mountain Preserve complex with its interconnected system of beautiful desert trails on its northern boundary.

Mountain View Park is a large community park that offers several features and amenities, including the Keep PHX Beautiful Community Garden, playgrounds, seating and restrooms, ramadas, and basketball courts. The park is also WalkPHX-designated with a mapped pathway for walking and gateway to the many trails (including a barrier-free trail) of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, a splendid place to experience the natural desert.

Norton Park also has a WalkPHX-designation, and there are other Sunnyslope-area parks in which you can be active. The Arizona Canal Multi-Use Pathway tunnels under the arterial streets and allows you to travel many miles, traffic-free. Many residents and patients receive their ParkRx prescriptions from HonorHealth, Desert Mission Food Bank and other providers.

An added bonus for Sunnyslope residents is the free SMART bus circulator that can move you throughout the community, including several parks and other popular destinations.

Community Resources

South Phoenix residents have many parks and trails in which to be active. South Mountain Park and Preserve have dozens of miles of trails from tame to extreme, all in a lovely desert setting. The Rio Salado Audubon Center and trails deliver nature through the power of perennial water in the desert. El Prado Park on 19th Avenue and Vineyard is a WalkPHX-designated park with lighted courts and a public pool (summer only).

Many residents and patients receive their ParkRx prescriptions from Community Health Workers, such as those at IG Conchos Elementary School in the Roosevelt School District.

There are also several bus routes (and light rail beginning 2023) that serve the south Phoenix neighborhoods and can connect you to other destinations as well.

About Us

ParkRx requires strong partnership among multiple stakeholders. Public partner organizations have been selected based upon their jurisdiction, skills and authorities. Community organizations demonstrated involvement with health services, nature, open space or tree/shade canopy, and are recognized as important within the selected communities.

ParkRx partners joined together to work with and train healthcare providers, to organize and lead activities at selected parks, but also to address high priority concerns in the parks as identified by community members.
